Bravery Award

OTTAWA—Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is supporting Denise Didone and Louise Seguin for the Governor General’s Decoration for Bravery. The Timmins born sisters helped save a Cochrane man from a bear attack in May.

Angus says without the swift and selfless actions of these 2 women, Joe Azougar’s situation might have been fatal. “It is courageous acts like these that ought to be recognized.”

Azougar was attacked by a bear at his rural home in Cochrane. Didone and Seguin left their nearby campsite and scared off the attacking animal with their car.

As a result of Denise and Louise’s efforts and willingness to put themselves in harms way, a complete stranger was saved. Their bravery and strength is a testimony of courage that serves as an inspiration to us all.”

Decorations for Bravery recognize people who risked their lives to try to save or protect another. The Decorations were created by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1972. The governor general personally presents the Decorations in ceremonies held at Rideau Hall, in Ottawa, or at La Citadelle, in QuébecCity. They consist of the Cross of Valour, the Star of Courage and the Medal of Bravery.

Angus wholeheartedly supports the nomination of Louise Seguin and Denise Didone for their brave and unselfish conduct in saving the life of a complete stranger.
